An Introduction to Fireworks

In this video we will start with a blank slate and create a usable but simple layout to replace that which is found at Sean Smith’s Repatriate.me. This was not meant to be a end all be all tutorial but rather just a quick post about some of the features that I like about Fireworks as it applies to web design. You may like Photoshop… that is ok. The video idea came about because Sean and Richard were both asking questions about designing websites and I made the comment that they needed to give Fireworks a whirl. As a way of convincing them to come to the dark side I have armed this video with the very best. It basically recreates the look of Sean’s website in about 10 minutes.

You can download the completed file here *note: I hated the colors after recording the video so I changed them up a bit and feel free to use the file for whatever.

HeadSpace Releases a ExpressionEngine Client Guide for FREE

This is one of those things that we all need but rarely ever make time to do. With each custom client we do we provide a bunch of tutorials for how to do things in their website. But I have often thought it would be nice to have a PDF that explains the basics of the ExpressionEngine CMS to a new user so they can start managing a website not necessarily building sites but entering content. Well Headspace is a design firm out of Nova Scotia and they have release a wonderful PDF that is just that. You can get it by clicking on this link to go to Headspace.com

Summer is over

OK so summer is over. Time to get back to work. Yea things have been a little lax round here for the last month but we are still fired up about ExpressionEngine and getting new cool templates built for the best CMS in the universe! Got ideas? Comment below and let us know what you would like to see.

As a teaser we are working on a forum skin and will probably work on a Wiki skin for Tudobem. So stay tuned for that.

Next free template for ExpressionEngine

I have been working on a design today for a personal project for photography website for the beautiful state of Alabama (that is a mouthful). Anyway, I got a rough complete and decided that this would be a great candidate for our next free template. What we will probably do is offer it with limited options (1-2 colors, no source image files, no drop down menu etc) as a free download and then with more options at a small price (like 20$). What do you think of the rough design? What options / functionality would you like to see?

Contest… Last… One…

OK, I hate to say it but I am worn out after a month of contests. lol… never thought I would say that. But it has been awesome fun giving stuff away. I do hope all the prizes help everyone out.

For the next 24 hours we will have a contest to give away Mark Bowen’s Shopping Cart Script. All you have to do is leave a comment with the type of template you would like to see us consider. It can be just about anything (let’s keep it clean you perv wink.

So leave a comment stating what kind of template you would like to see from us and be entered to win Mark Bowen’s Shopping Cart Script.

On-Air now type schedule

For now this is going to have to be a quick blog post. I will try and come back and fill in the details next week but I have a deadline tonight for this site and need to get it done. Once I feel it is flushed out I will move it to the tutorials section…. Make sure to let me know what you think.

Basically I needed a way to display a certain Radio Personality on the home page of a Radio Station website depending on the time of day. I just worked this up and have not seen it in action so… YMMV

And the winner is…

The winner of today’s give away is ...

Tomorrow is our last give away for awhile. It takes a lot of time to do this stuff between promoting it and writing up the posts and tweeting it and such. We have some deadlines and new templates that we want to release so… Tomorrow we will give away 1 license to Mark Bowen’s Shopping Cart Script.
